Why are you taking this class?

Summary)

In today's digital world, I think the power of collective intelligence is enormous.  Each individual connects to a specific digital platform, sharing their opinions freely and expanding their information.  Wikipedia demonstrates this power of collective intelligence. Therefore, I take for this class because I felt interested in Wikipedia and wanted to learn how to share and expand my knowledge.

New/Interesting things I learned)

I didn't know much about Wikipedia, so I didn't fully trust it.  However, I was able to gain credibility after learning about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  One of the interesting things about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines is the'neutral point of view'.  Wikipedia was trying to make an article that wasn't biased either way.  I thought it was a good policy because even a few opinions could be reflected fairly without prejudice.  It was also interesting to note that the more intense the editing, the more cold you have to be.  It is to avoid unnecessary editorial wars and to respect the opinions of other users.  I am interested in Wikipedia through these policies.

Discussion Point)

Wikipedia allows anyone to participate in writing, editing, and sharing. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage of Wikipedia. Anyone can edit it, so the facts are likely to be distorted and errors can occur. So, what efforts will be needed to resolve these limitations?

Comments

  1. I sympathized with this post a lot. Especially about Wikipedia's limitations as a discussion point.
It is true that there is a risk of fact distortion because anyone can write and edit Wikipedia, but I think there is also a way to overcome this.
If someone shared the wrong information, I think they can overcome this limitation if people who know the truth correct information, post it, and share knowledge.
If the knowledge of many people gathers to find the right information, I think it is truly collective intelligence!

    1. It is good to say that people who know the truth can overcome the limitations of Wikipedia if they correct the wrong information. This opinion seems to be a fundamental goal that Wikipedia wants. However, it seems that concerns about information distortions will disappear when various people use Wikipedia. Thank you for your opinion.
