W15 : What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? - KIM JINA

1.  What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? This was the second time in a class editing Wikipedia. Following last year, I learned a lot this year while taking this class. Once I have explored the subject that I have set out for myself, I have learned to write it coherently. In fact, as I asked my colleagues about the overall course of this class, I think this class itself was really "collective intelligence." Looking at the announcement offline, there were many things I didn't know and confused about, but whenever Wikipedia editing was blocked, I think I was able to adapt quickly because I helped each other and shared opinions with my friends. I also remembered the class I took before and informed my friends, so I was able to finish the Wikipedia assignment safely. I thought a lot so that I could accurately communicate the contents while choosing and exploring the topic. I thought I should write it so that I could understand the sentence well, so I changed the sentence ...

W14: Wikipidia : Did You Know - KIM JINA

 1. Summary On Wikipedia, DYK is a section of the main page, showing new or expanded articles selected through informal reviews. DYK appeared on its first main page on February 22, 2004. DYK consists of a series of "hooks", which are interesting facts taken from Wikipedia's newest content, of the format "Did you know that...?" Thus, to nominate something to appear on DYK, an editor must either write or identify new content (see below for what qualifies as "new") and propose an interesting "hook". 2. Interesting Every time I doing this section, next time I didn't know if there is only the editing of Wikipedia, I'm gon na take a look at the thought. In addition, that managers to participate actively in this section was remarkable. Also learned that pretty strict criteria.Recommendation is dyk in conformity with the four basic conditions are required to determine whether the conditions are very difficult than I expected. 3.  Discussion The...

W13: After reading "Categorization" - KIM JINA

1. Summary This book describes the categorization of Wikipedia. Categorization refers to the strategy of organizing objects or concepts using common attributes, uses, and relationships. Categorization has a significant impact on the formation of concepts. It helps humans easily identify, understand, and remember ideas. Categorization is done hierarchically. Categorization is considered synonymous with classification. Categorization allows humans to construct objects and ideas that exist around them and simplify their understanding of the world. Social classification consists of classifying humans into groups to identify them according to different criteria. Classification is a process that cognitive scientists study, but it can also be studied as a social activity. Social classification differs from classification of other objects because it means creating categories for oneself and others as human beings. 2. Interesting points Some social categories account for a larger proportion of ...

W12 : What is “quality” for our societies? - KIM JINA

Despite economic growth in East Asian countries, which have achieved high growth, Korea has a low sense of happiness among citizens. In this situation, I think the quality of society is important. What is the quality of society? I think the quality of society is closely related to happiness. I think the quality of society shows how satisfied and happy the people living in this society are. Therefore, I think that the better the society is, the higher the quality of society. In other words, the higher the quality of life, the higher the quality of society. To do so, I think society needs to have objective conditions that are good for people to live physically and mentally. The conditions include minimal material resources, and economic leeway to support them, mental affluence and euphoria. Quality of society refers to the extent to which individuals can participate in socioeconomic and cultural public life under the condition that they can improve their welfare or individual poten...

W11 : Is quality subjective or objective? - KIM JINA

I think the quality is subjective. When each individual sees something specific, it is common to see that the quality is good or bad. I think the quality of this situation itself feels different from person to person, i.e. subjective. Not long ago, I went into an Internet shopping mall to buy clothes and saw reviews written by people. Some people wrote that they liked the quality because it was good for the price, but others wrote a review that they were unlikely to buy it again due to the poor quality of the clothes. Although there are public institutions that inspect more than a certain quality, I think the responses of the reviews are also divided because each individual has different standards that think the quality is good. If quality is objective, I don't think there will be any controversy over quality. Everyone knows objectively good quality standards, so we will try to reach them.

W10 : Can we think of some example of how internet has changed our culture? - KIM JINA

The Internet has changed our culture really quickly and variously. An example that is common around is "K-POP." Unlike in the past, our culture is now spread to many parts of the world through various platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, and on the contrary, overseas culture is transmitted to Korea. Examples of Korean culture being introduced to the world and becoming famous include BTS and Black Pink. Thanks to this, many K-pop singers are moving beyond Korea and Asia to Europe and the United States. In addition, more and more singers are showing pop music with all the lyrics in English aimed at overseas countries. On the contrary, there are cases in which foreign culture enters Korea. Through OTT platforms such as Netflix and Watcha, TV programs and movies that were popular overseas became easily accessible in Korea, creating another new trend. Popular styles such as "High Teen" and "Kitch" that are emerging in Korea have made overseas high ...

W9 : Do you think wikipedia is reliable? - KIM JINA

I think Wikipedia is somewhat credible. This is because while editing the wiki myself, I realized that the contents of the wiki were collected from various references and other materials. Wiki doesn't show all the information without screening. In addition to censorship in the wiki itself, other editors frequently examine and modify documents. However, I think it is difficult to trust Wiki 100%. There will be young Wikipedia editors and non-experts, even if the content of the wiki is written based on data, which has not been fully verified. There is also a lot of information that changes over time. Therefore, I have some faith in Wikipedia, but I think users should be able to accept the content critically rather than as it is. Editors also need to be careful not to censor themselves and add uncertainty to Wikipedia.

W8 : What do you find difficult and enjoyable? - KIM JINA

  1. What do you find difficult? Rather than the editing process itself being difficult, it felt strange that I could edit the contents of the dictionary myself. In the meantime, I felt that encyclopedias were 'correct' and that I was only a student who accepted the content. But now I felt burdened by the fact that I was editing the wiki contents by directly choosing a topic with my friend. I was also worried about what to do if I make a mistake. 2. What do you find enjoyable? There were certain difficulties, but there were also fun things. I enjoyed the process of walking around the wiki of my favorite subject and adding the little information I knew. Or it felt rewarding for me to correct the wrong information correctly. On the contrary, it was fun to learn information that I didn't know through Wiki. 3. Discussion Minor in the Wikipedia editing, I want to challenge a variety of topics, thus becomes the topic limited since we have a lot of editing what I don't know.Th...

W7 : Good Faith Collaboration - KIM JINA

Summary This book contains a study of Wikipedia's culture. The book is based on Dr. Reagle's dissertation. This book describes how Wikipedia works and the problems that arise. The author goes beyond most of the descriptions written about Wikipedia and says that Wikipedia should be studied in his own terms. He also argued that the book deserves to be added to the text of the ethnographic literature on new digital media, stressing the historical importance of wiki technology needed to develop Wikipedia projects. Interesting point This book is really many help to people who are unfamiliar with Wikipedia is think. In particular, this is still strange new editor and editor that can adapt to less experienced Wikipedia editors to.The book also has a traditional editors were also mentioned about the new editors to have attitude.Wiki for the first time editing my edits made when someone I actually useless information handling and have been wiped away all bummed out, see this book, I th...

W6 : How important are contributions of a single individual in the sea of "collective intelligence"? - KIM JINA

Summary Collective intelligence refers to the collective ability that a large number of people have gained as a result of cooperation or competition with each other. I think the most important thing in collective intelligence is collaboration. I think all of the participants play a very important role because it is to cooperate, compete, and develop outcomes that cannot be produced alone. In that sense, I think 'individuals' are very important and play a big role in collective intelligence because they correspond to all participants. Interesting point Listening to the collective intelligence class, I thought Wikipedia really reflected the case of collective intelligence. Wouldn't it be possible to find examples of collective intelligence on social networking sites that have many users such as Twitter and Instagram besides Wikipedia? Discussion point In a situation where collective intelligence is needed, can we expect good results if any of the participants are unfaithful...

W5 : Do you think Wikipedia is right to reject censorship? - KIM JINA

I think Wikipedia needs some censorship to deliver the right information. Wikipedia has many people participating in editing Wikipedia and adding new information facts. If Wikipedia just lets everything go without censorship, the site will be covered with misinformation and spam ads. Wikipedia has the purpose of delivering quality information to users. So a lot of people use Wikipedia when they want to get the information they need, or when there's an area they want to know. But if there's any misinformation on such Wikipedia, there can be a lot of confusion among users. People will lose faith in Wikipedia itself. Sites that convey information require much stronger regulation and censorship than other sites. The reason is that it has to be objective and accurate. Furthermore, if there are many document editors, the information they write can be biased. Objective information about an event should be described, and there are cases in which an individual's opinion is drawn u...

W4: What are the pros & cons of using Naver versus Google for research purposes? - KIM JINA

I'm in favor of using Naver and Google for research purposes. We often write reports for research or exploration purposes. When I write a report, I often use Naver and Google to view data from various sources. Google can also check data from overseas sources, allowing users to find data on difficult topics. Naver is easy to find various issues and events in Korea thanks to its local website. I usually get information about domestic data and daily life through Naver. And I use Google to collect information such as academic materials, papers, and foreign articles. This is very useful when writing a report. When writing a report, it can be a problem if you don't reveal the source of the data I researched or steal it without permission. However, it does not matter if the author correctly indicates the source of the data. In addition, authors should be careful that most of the content is not data descriptions, but rather their thoughts on the data and results of further research. As...

W3 : Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? -KIM JINA

In my opinion, it is because there are many other encyclopedia sites in Korea that are more common than Wikipedia. In Korea, there is an encyclopedia site provided by ‘Naver’ and ‘Daum’ portals. There is also a site called <Name Wiki>, similar to Wikipedia, where users can edit documents themselves. Also, I think Wikipedia's layout is difficult for people to use because it is not a common layout in Korea. Personally, the design of the homepage was also very academic, making it uncomfortable to use it comfortably. The number of Korean users of Wikipedia is decreasing, and the amount of information Koreans need is decreasing. Wikipedia will have more users if it changes the design and layout of the platform in a friendly manner and emphasizes Wikipedia's unique advantages.

W2 : After watching Mitch Resnick's TED video -KIM JINA

<Summary> In 2012, Mitch Resnick gave a lecture at TED on the theme of 'Teach Children Code!' He explains some philosophy in his lecture. 1. Rather than simply using technology, the experience of expressing oneself with technology is more important. 2. Learning certain concepts through code in the process of creating the desired project is a very good way to learn. 3. SW education allows people to develop various thinking capabilities that are not just focused on 'computing'. Therefore, many students have to learn. In other words, he emphasized the need and importance of coding to children. <New and interesting thing I learned> I don't know much about computing and coding, so the Ted lecture felt new. One of the most impressive philosophies the speaker emphasized in the lecture was, "Experience in expressing oneself with technology is more important than simply using technology." Usually, most people think that technology is what we use to li...

W1 : Why are you taking this class? / What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it? - KIM JINA

1. Why are you taking this class? There were many new things I learned last year when I took the professor's other class, "Globalization Sociology." I was able to learn about globalization, and the process of directly investigating the topic and modifying Wikipedia was interesting. I took this class because I wanted to take other classes because I enjoyed the professor's teaching style and process. 2. What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it? Last year, I saw my Wikipedia article and blog post, and there was something to be desired. This year, I want to prepare more step by step and write more detailed and information than last year.
