W3 / Why is Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? JeongYoon Oh(오정윤)

The reason Wikipedia is less popular in Korea is because Koreans already have a familiar search site. It is a search site called Naver, and Koreans are already used to using Naver to find information. Naver itself has a dictionary, but there is also a space where users can personally ask and answer questions. Of course, there is no system where users modify and supplement each other in Naver dictionary like Wikipedia.

Personally, when I first used the computer, I used Naver for the first time, so I got used to searching on that site.  I'm sure many Koreans also used Naver for the first time as a search site. But Naver doesn't have as much information as Wikipedia. I also realized that after I became a high school student, there was less information on Naver that could be cited for school assignments, so I started using Wikipedia. But I still rely on Naver when I searching simple information. Not because Wikipedia's information is insufficient or inaccurate, but because there are many people who have become familiar with Naver in Korea.

Although Naver's usage is higher in Korea, I think Wikipedia is far ahead in accuracy or amount of information.
