W3) Why Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? /박채정, PARK CHAEJEONG
Q. Why Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries?
A. It cannot be concluded that "Koreans do not know Wikipedia, ~~~ for this reason." However, I carefully predict that the following list may be the cause.
Typical domestic portal sites that are too familiar to us: Naver, Daum.. etc.
- A search function is enabled to recognize related or expected search terms.
- News sections such as issues, breaking news, entertainment, and sports are well distinguished.
- Mail, blog posting, Q&A (ex. 지식in), videos, shopping, and more can be easily used within one portal site.
Also most people usually use portal sites through their smartphones. There are people who connect through Internet browsers, but they usually install their own applications on their mobile phones.
I installed Wikipedia's application myself and compared it to Naver, Wikipedia's page lists only the "title" in the form of documents, and it is relatively simple. However, another domestic portal site 'Never' application is well divided into sections for easy viewing, and there are various functions such as choosing things that I can enjoy watching.
I thought that if the page was reorganized to suit people's tendency to use portal sites, the number of users of Wikipedia could increase enough.
I am always interested in reading the answer to this question :)
