The Puzzle of Openness

1. Summary

Wikipedia is one of the open content community accessible to many people. A community is a group of interdependent people who participate in discussion and decision making together. Wikipedia has a community that is spontaneous and pro-social by acting beneficial to others. Also, the characteristics of the open content community include open content, transparency, integrity, nondiscrimination, and noninterference. For the value of transparency and integrity, we need to have a sense of trust and responsibility, and I think that a balance must be maintained between openness and quality of information.

2.  An interesting point I learned

I was interested in the phrase “Wikipedia is free and open, but restricts both freedom and openness where they interfere with creating an encyclopedia.” Wikipedia seeks freedom and openness, but there seems to be a contradiction in restricting freedom and openness that hinder it for high-quality data. In this respect, the question arises whether Wikipedia can be said to be completely free and open.

3. Discussion angle

In order for Wikipedia to be an encyclopedia full of quality information, it must balance openness with the quality of information. "The Puzzle of Openness" says using real names can balance the value of openness and quality of information. I also think that if anyone's real name is public, they will be more responsible for sharing information on Wikipedia. So, what are other ways to maintain balance?
