W4 / What are the pros and cons of using Naver versus Google for research purposes? JeongYoon Oh(오정윤)

  I would like to talk about the pros and cons of Naver first and then about the pros and cons of Google.

 There are two advantages of Naver that I thought of. 

 First, Naver is very familiar to Koreans, especially. All Koreans have Naver IDs, and many people use Naver blogs and make friends through Naver cafes. It is not just an information retrieval site, but a communication space where you can communicate with new people and get close to them. Since many Koreans are already using Naver, the biggest advantage is that you can use the site without difficulty when you find any information.

 Second, there is a category called "지식 in". "지식 in" is a category belonging to Naver that allows many people to ask questions privately from an unspecified number of individuals, and someone who can answer them answers, and many people can see the answers. There are various kinds of questions, ranging from very small questions such as dream interpretation and love counseling to complicated questions related to legal issues or diseases.

 I also picked one disadvantage of Naver. First, if you search on Naver, you can only see posts written through Naver-related pages such as Naver blogs and cafes. If someone didn't post the information I wanted to find on the Naver platform, I can never find it. If Naver maintains this search system even when its usage rate drops, Naver's usage rate will fall faster.

 Next, I will talk about the pros and cons of Google. There are two advantages of Google I thought.

 First, since many countries use Google, we can simply search foreign languages and get various information. If you are worried about the lack of information while searching through Google Korea, you often find various professional information if you search the same content through using English or other languages.

 Second, Google does not have real-time search terms.
Real-time search terms are a system that allows people to see at a glance what their interests are now, but they are sometimes abused by the government or large companies. If politics-related word is on the real-time search keyword, other events or scandals may be created to cover it up.  It cannot be used as a fair real-time search term. Google is a website that is used only by search itself without such political pressure.

 Google's disadvantage is that it may enter inappropriate websites for teenagers.
 Of course, emotionally dangerous websites are set up invisible to users under the age of 19, but being over the age of 19 doesn't mean you want to enter them. It was hard because I often went to inappropriate websites or saw unwanted pictures while searching for school assignments. I know it happens because Google handles all homepages around the world, but it is often difficult for users.
