Week1: Why are you taking this class? / What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it?

 

∎ Why are you taking this class?

Because I want a SOCIOLOGY class.

This year is my last year at hanyang univ. I want to take the sociology class as many as possible. But in this semester, there are really few sociology class for my major, information sociology. So I choose this ‘Collective intelligence’ class.

The second reason of taking this class is that I am interested in various Wikipedia. I use Wikipedia almost every day. There are uncountable information on the web,. It is useful. However, sometimes it disturbing find useful information or taking too many time. In this case, Wikipedia helps me. I wonder why many people use their time for editing Wikipedia.

And more, I am interesting various wiki(like namuwiki, femiwiki). Some people create wiki site in a certain viewpoint in korean web. Why they do that? What kind of people use this site?

 

∎ What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it?

I expect to gain wiki editing skill and wiki literacy. Wikipedia is important website for almost people. Many people use it first when they want to know something. Writing correct information in Wikipedia is so important in this generation. In addition, reading Wikipedia in critical perspective is important too. Although wikipedian’s collective intelligence maintains quality of wiki, there is always a possibility of misinformation. So we raise media literacy.
