W 7. Good Faith Collaboration / Jung Jisoo
1. Good Faith Collaboration ;
This book explains how Wikipedia works and Wikipedia
community. It is divided into eight chapters, dealing with Wikipedia's history,
orientation, and problems. As mentioned in several reviews, the characteristics
of Wikipedia are described in detail, and at the same time, critical discussion
of Wikipedia is analyzed. And through this, we can learn about the parts that
need to be continuously discussed in relation to the characteristics of
Wikipedia.
2. Interesting point
Wikipedia still has some critical views. For
example, as it is an open source platform, it is open, but there will be
reliability issues. However, today Wikipedia is a site with many users. Although
the participation rate of specific age groups or specific genders is remarkably
high, volunteers of various age groups are participating. So, I always find it
interesting that Wikipedia maintains a lasting community with a balance between
openness and supervision.
3. What I learned
Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia open to anyone. By saying that it is open to anyone, we can think of Wikipedia as a very open and free place. However, there are a set of norms within Wikipedia. Within these norms, people edit articles for a variety of reasons, such as to share their knowledge. The participants in the editing act without wishing for a monetary price. A community formed of these people is being maintained, and in order to understand Wikipedia with these characteristics, I think that understanding of various disciplines and perspectives such as leadership, community, and laws such as copyright is also necessary.
Jisoo, I read your review of GFC well. Overall, I have a similar idea to yours. In particular, I agree with what you mentioned in the second paragraph, which is very interesting for Wikipedia to keep the balance between openness and governance at the same time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as you mentioned, Wikipedia is a society in which people communicate with a set of norms. Therefore, I deeply agree that understanding Wikipedia requires several academic and perspective understandings.
I read it well read! I think that despite the fact that Wikipedia is freely available to many users, we can guarantee some quality of information because there are rules and norms inside Wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that understanding from multiple perspectives is necessary to understand the nature of the behavior of multiple users sharing their knowledge and editing articles without financial consideration.
