W6: Thoughts after reading "Encyclopedic Anxiety", "A Globe in Accord" / Sanmmin Choe

Pareto's law also applies to Wikipedia, where few users edit most Wikipedia articles.

The interpretation of history is often tarnished by the present. In other words, it can vary depending on the perspective and interpretation of history. Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia edited by various people, it provides an opportunity to examine attitudes and beliefs about knowledge in various fields. In other words, the social context can be read through Wikipedia.

Knowledge production can be viewed in three dimensions. An isolated encyclopedia is useless. No one can edit an encyclopedia by himself. It includes interactions within social organizations. Finally, there is Wikipedia and other open content.

The universal encyclopedia wants to have scalability. Also, the world's encyclopedias are not limited to text. New media and technology have been embraced. However, many critics have negative thoughts about Wikipedia, which is a collaboration of amateurs, not experts. It is also contemptible that there is no condition for editing. Now, the way content is produced has changed and there is a debate over whether collaboration is bad or good. Wikipedia is a controversial issue because it is an incomplete realization of the vision that the encyclopedia was aiming for. Wikipedia is not only a reference work but also a way to look at how knowledge is structured.

Collaboration does not guarantee accuracy and public editing can cause abuse, so it requires a culture of cooperation, not conflict. Sharing and cooperation in the online community has made Wikipedia successful. The most important thing in Wikipedia is cooperation.

I thought about the dangers of collaboration. I also thought that I might be comfortable alone when I was working on a team project. However, while working on the team project, I sometimes encounter a point of view that I did not think of. I think this is why the issue of diversity is prominent in society these days. I believe that society can develop and move in a better direction as various people's views harmonize and go through arguments. Wikipedia is a platform that provides access to diversity and is thought to be the Greek square of the 21st century.

3.

What are some examples of diversity that contributed to development? Can this also contribute to the creation of knowledge?
