W6 : Why do people contribute to Wikipedia?

 Summary

As Professor Piotr said, Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. It means that everyone who wants to do it can edit Wikipedia. Many people would like to participate in editing Wikipedia, which is the reason that Wikipedia still runs, but as everyone knows, Wikipedia does not pay any wages for people. However, people or Wikipedian contribute to Wikipedia willingly and gladly even though they are not getting paid. Then, why do people contribute to Wikipedia?  I would like to discuss it before the professor resumes the lecture.

Discussion

In my opinion, there are two reasons why Wikipedian contribute to Wikipedia without getting paid. First, they like to share some information which they know or explore. After searching information and posting it on the website, they feel proud of themselves and get fulfilled. They like and enjoy this kind of sense of emotion when they share their information. Second, this is my case, people do it because it is their homework or assignment from their schools or universities. Many educational institutions deal with Wikipedia as educational materials. Therefore people edit Wikipedia to study and learn something such as collective intelligence. These are my opinion about why people contribute to Wikipedia.
