W7: Good Faith Collaboration / MINKYO JEONG, 정민교
1) summary
It contains almost everything about Wikipedia. So, it's an
encyclopedia of Wikipedia. The book focuses on the successful aspects of
Wikipedia in particular.
The author describes the form of an open platform
encyclopedia called Wikipedia, which people have craved, and explains why
Wikipedia has succeeded as a successful open encyclopedia by linking it to
human intrinsic and ethnographic characteristics. It was a new approach for me
to recognize Wikipedia as just encyclopedia.
2) What was interesting
As mentioned in several reviews, it is impressive that this
book focuses a lot on the successful aspects of Wikipedia. There are minor
criticisms and concerns about Wikipedia, which seems to be because the author
is taking a positive stance on Wikipedia. In particular, since Wikipedia is not
financially addressing the insecurity, discussions on this part also seem to be
needed. But overall, the author's not-so-difficult tone increased access to the
book.
3) Things to talk about
I would like to discuss what Wikipedia should pursue in the
future. Up to now, Wikipedia has shown successful achievements as an open
platform, depending on human nature, and technology to support it. However, as
in the last lecture, Wikipedia users are decreasing these days. Is there any
way for Wikipedia to reach its golden age again?
Hi, 민교.
ReplyDeleteYour writing is always good to read. I'm not exactly the answer to your question, but I'll give you my opinion. Wikipedia was not successful from the beginning either. However, they have gone through trials and errors, solved problems, and now they are here(successful open community). Wouldn't it be important to adapt to unfamiliar network environments in order to increase more users? Wikipedia is a new form of encyclopedia, and at first we were probably not familiar with how to use it. But we are adjusting to that before we know it.
