W10. Remix culture / Jung jisoo

1. Summary

Remix culture refers to a society that permits further development by editing or combining original works to produce new works or products. This remix culture is related to open-source software. Lawrence Lessing compared the Read/Write culture and the Read Only culture, and the Read Only cultuer simply provides the content to consumers and is consumed somewhat passively. On the other hand, Read/Write culture has an interactive relationship between producers and consumers. For example, consumers can share their opinions on the works by providing a space for comments. The remix culture is related to the advancement of digital technology, and the area of remixing is diverse, including folklore and vocal traditions, graphic arts, books and other information, and music.

2. What I learned

It was interesting to me that the development of digital technology has evolved from Read Only culture to Read/Write culture and further to Remix culture. I thought that the boundaries between producers of content and consumers who accept it were gradually breaking down. However, in this material, it was mentioned that the current copyright law is not effective in preventing content sampling, so I think it is necessary to further consider copyright.

3. Question

According to an article, TikTok, now popular with celebrities and younger generations, is gaining huge popularity as a unique remix culture of TikTok that imitates and transforms content among users. What are some other examples that have become very popular as remix culture?

Comments

  1. I think the most noticeable aspect of the remix culture at the moment is the field of music.remix literature has injected new blood into the field of music. Share a song to you "Wannabe (Spice Girls Cover)" by Unlike Pluto/why mona. This is a composite song, but two different styles. Even I think you would say that this is not a song at all. I think I can imagine what you look like after hearing them.

  2. YouTube music cover is a popular remix culture these days. When singers release songs, many YouTubers cover and remix music in their own style. The same goes for dancing. Therefore, I think remix culture is being shown a lot on YouTube.
