W10 After reading – Remix Culture

 Remix Culture

Shinhee Kim

Summary

Remix culture is the creation of new creations by reproducing existing materials. Remixes are carried out in various fields such as folklore, books, software, music, and movies, and are also carried out across fields. In the analog era, remixing culture existed despite being limited due to the disadvantage of damaging the quality of copying works. And with the advent of the digital age, the remixing culture could become very active. Various application creations were created with open source software. In addition, due to the bidirectional nature of the Internet, various contents can be accessed easily, and individuals can also create creative contents using them.

What I learned

In the field of religion, it was found that remix culture could occur by making the Bible more easily interpreted. In addition, even in the analog age, there was a limited but remixed culture, and I learned anew that there was a movement of change.

Discussion

Sometimes people abuse the remix culture to infringe on other people's copyrights and plagiarism. In the boundary between remix and plagiarism, what kind of system should people prepare to keep their originality?

Comments

  1. I think the guarantee of remix culture, plagiarism, and originality is inseparable. The legislature defines a number of laws on copyright, but the pace of increase in people's content utilization capabilities makes me feel like the speed of legal guarantees is not catching up. I think people should change themselves if there are limitations and difficulties for the nation to solve. Shouldn't we conduct social campaigns or similar campaigns on the issues you mentioned and establish people's thoughts?
