W10/Remix culture/HARI KIM

Summary)

Remix culture is a society that allows and encourages the production of new creations or products by combining or editing existing materials. This culture restricts copyright monopolization and allows to improve, alter, integrate, or remix their work. In order for this remix culture to survive, there must be a spirit of participation shared and created by others. The development of digital technology served to revive remix culture. Consumers soon took the form of producers, with non-experts generating content through blogs and the public adding knowledge from Wikipedia.
Remixing is being used positively in various areas. It is used in many areas, including graphic art, books, and other information, software, music, movies, and more. In the field of information, Wikipedia is called the "world's most thorough and up-to-date encyclopedia" with constant editing and production by many people around the world. Another example is that most new films are remixed versions of cartoons, graphic novels, and books. Remixing culture is a culture that overcomes existing shortcomings and opens up the possibility that creations far beyond their original scope and intentions can be produced.

New/Interesting things I learned)

I thought remix culture led to the creation of a variety of creations beyond existing creations. I also realized that remixing was necessary to make data accessible to people with disabilities. The data is converted into braille or visual text, allowing them to access the data. And it was interesting that remix helped in religion. Remix culture made it easier for readers to interpret the Bible. Like this, I learned that remix had many positive effects on humans.

Discussion Point)

Remix culture also has the risk of negatively affecting existing works. It can plagiarize, or it can undermine the original intent of the work. Are you negative or positive about remix culture? I'm curious about your opinion.
