W11. After Reading – Wiki Commons
Shinhee Kim
Summary
Wiki commons is a space where people
voluntarily provide free media. Excluding text, you can upload various images,
videos, and sounds, and all contents uploaded here can be used freely inside
and outside of Wikimedia. Therefore, you cannot upload any images, and you can
post works for which you have copyrights for free or upload only files with a
free license. When uploading files, the files are not classified by abstract
general keywords, but into categories that are subdivided into subcategories.
The explanatory text of the uploaded image may be automatically modified
through localization for various countries.
What I learned
What's new is that people can't later
revoke licenses for images they've already uploaded. Images that have already
been released for free cannot be changed simply except in very limited cases.
I've also relied on search so far to find images on Wiki Commons, and I've
noticed that there are a variety of subdivided categories.
Discussion
With so many free resources available, are
there any special tips I can use to find the image I'm looking for? There are
subdivided categories, but it would be nice if there was a way to find the
composition or size you want.
Shinhee, I read your post well. As you mentioned, I was also very impressed with the license system and detailed categories. It seems to have been carefully designed for accurate retrieval of information and concerns about licensing disputes.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am curious about how to find the exact image I want. For example, how can I find a picture that resembles an image drawn in my head?
