Do you think that access to internet should be a human right?/HARI KIM
Q. Do you think that access to internet should be a human right?
A.
I think it is a human right to access the Internet. I think the days of accepting only the information given passively are over. I think everyone has the right to actively explore a lot of information spread on the Internet.
Last year, there was a case in which a user was punished for accessing Wikipedia in China, which strongly controls the use of overseas websites. I don't think there's a right to restrict the information provided by Wikipedia anywhere in the world. Wikipedia, in particular, values 'neutrality' and 'objectivity', so there is no reason to block further. Blocking sensitive websites with a strong Internet control system to prevent unfavorable information is like blocking human rights to know. Of course, I think it is right to block illegal Internet sites. However, I think it is a violation of human rights to restrict the use of the Internet for information retrieval.
