W12 : What is “quality” for our societies? - KIM JINA

Despite economic growth in East Asian countries, which have achieved high growth, Korea has a low sense of happiness among citizens. In this situation, I think the quality of society is important. What is the quality of society?

I think the quality of society is closely related to happiness. I think the quality of society shows how satisfied and happy the people living in this society are. Therefore, I think that the better the society is, the higher the quality of society. In other words, the higher the quality of life, the higher the quality of society.

To do so, I think society needs to have objective conditions that are good for people to live physically and mentally. The conditions include minimal material resources, and economic leeway to support them, mental affluence and euphoria.

Quality of society refers to the extent to which individuals can participate in socioeconomic and cultural public life under the condition that they can improve their welfare or individual potential. It also refers to the characteristics of social-level relationships, going further from individual-level quality of life. To sum up, the quality of society is "the extent to which citizens who make up a society can fully express themselves and enjoy economic and cultural life within the community."
