W15 : What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? - KIM JINA
1. What did I learn while editing Wikipedia?
This was the second time in a class editing Wikipedia. Following last year, I learned a lot this year while taking this class. Once I have explored the subject that I have set out for myself, I have learned to write it coherently. In fact, as I asked my colleagues about the overall course of this class, I think this class itself was really "collective intelligence." Looking at the announcement offline, there were many things I didn't know and confused about, but whenever Wikipedia editing was blocked, I think I was able to adapt quickly because I helped each other and shared opinions with my friends. I also remembered the class I took before and informed my friends, so I was able to finish the Wikipedia assignment safely. I thought a lot so that I could accurately communicate the contents while choosing and exploring the topic. I thought I should write it so that I could understand the sentence well, so I changed the sentence expression concisely and accurately. In addition, I searched papers and articles on several sites to add other links and citations. In the process, I think I was able to know and study more about the topic I chose.
2. How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments?
I think the "task participation method" was very different from the previous tasks I did. The previous assignments were to write a report and submit it through a data survey when the professor set a specific topic, and to accept the scores that came out. However, I was able to select topics for Wikipedia assignments myself, expand articles, and receive feedback from the professor immediately on the assignment.
3. Is it more fun?
The task of editing Wikipedia was more interesting because I could look at various topics. To be honest, however, the amount of homework was a lot because there were blogs and weekly additional edits, and it was a little difficult. Still, it was a fun class because I learned a lot.
