W2 : Why Wikipedia? / MINJI JEONG
1. Summarize - Why do you think Wikipedia is becoming more accepted?
Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia of user engagement that allows anyone around the world to write freely. In other words, it is a platform that produces intellectual output through online collaboration. Because it is a dictionary that is created by many users, the initial reliability is inevitably low. However, I believe that the reliability and validity of the information could easily be restored because over time the writings were verified and modified by more users. For this reason, I think Wikipedia is becoming more and more acceptable. Based on increasing reliability, the number of users is bound to increase. And I think that the increased size of users contributes to the production of a large amount of quality information and leads to net transfer.
2. An interesting point I learned
Wikipedia is used in a variety of fields. Because I have enough information about schools, businesses, governments, etc. But not all the information on Wikipedia is public confidence. The credibility of the information is increasing, but it does not guarantee the objectivity of the information. I was interested in this part. For example, when conducting research or performing school tasks, we mainly use Wikipedia to collect initial information. I think this part shows the difference between trust and public confidence in information.
3. Discussion angle
We use many Internet platforms, including Wikipedia, to find information easily. Wikipedia, in particular, is a world-renowned information platform. But what do you think is the reason why the usage rate of Wikipedia is relatively low?
