∎ Why are you taking this class?
∎ What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it?
Actually, I am a senior majoring in advertising and public relations. And as you know, most of classes about advertising require a lot of team projects. In addition to team projects for assignments at universities, real-world advertising companies and trendy marketing methods are all about using collective intelligence.
(1) To gain sociological knowledge about people
what I want to gain from this class is sociological knowledge about how people form collective intelligence. In order to plan advertisement, we fundamentally need to understand people and society. So through this class, I want to know people in a society by directly participating in the process of sharing knowledge through the knowledge-sharing channel “WikiPedia”, which is the most hottest website these days. I’ll gain a fundamental understanding of society and people, observing The way people sharing knowledge.
(2) To know about how collective intelligence is being used in marketing these days.
I think this class is an opportunity to know about how collective intelligence is being used in marketing methods these days. As mentioned in syllabus, People get interested in sharing knowledge more than before. And it is often used for marketing. For example, one of the trendy advertising and marketing methods these days is to make consumers act as informants themselves and become one of the sources of advertising. And It resembles a collective intelligence in a way.
I don't know how it will be, but I believe that through this class, I’ll use collective intelligence effectively in a field of advertising. I've worked on creating advertising plans, making advertising slogans through team work. So I used collective intelligence for creative and subjective ideas through team work. I'm really looking forward to this class because I've never worked on making details about historical facts or anything real as a team work.
Oh, right! When I was young, I thought that people who got used to online would be cut off from each other as technology advances. But we can easily relate to other people, so communication in online becomes more active. I think the information accumulated through online communication is also collective intelligence. For example, restaurant reviews that people write on the restaurant delivery application. (배달의 민족)
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, as a student of the advertising and public relations department, I am worried that negative opinions regarding brand images and products can be accumulated and shared more easily.
