W2 : After watching Mitch Resnick’s TED video

Through this video, I realized that programming education is not only as deep and professional as I know it, but also more flat and interesting. With the change of the times and the advancement of technology, the times we experience are indeed constantly changing. I believe that programming is just a way of learning like reading. It does not depend on any subjective intentions but exercises people’s logical thinking and creativity. China There is a common saying that “giving others fish is better than fishing for others.” I believe that programming does not exist as a short-lived technology, but behind it is that people need to keep learning with the times and have an open attitude.

The purpose of early childhood education is different from the professional education we receive now. Early childhood education is more inclined to teach children the way of thinking, rather than the part of applying knowledge or technology in a professional subject as we are now learning. Therefore, adding programming to early childhood education is different from the professional programming learned in a real computer school. In a broad sense, programming is a way of interaction between humans and machines. It is also the basic means for contemporary humans to use machines flexibly. In the foreseeable future, machines will increasingly participate in our lives. The method of communication will become more and more important. As a liberal arts student, I always have a stereotype of programming. I find it difficult to learn or even higher than mathematics. But this video reminds me of the LOGO program I learned in elementary school, through a simple program to make the turtles on the screen move in all directions. This also shows that we should not be confined to the surface of things, but to integrate events into the background of the times and understand the world.

  1. I agree with you. In his speech, Professor Mitch Resnick demonstrated the functions and characteristics of Scratch through many examples, showing what is meant by "learning because of need" (taking variables as an example). Making an analogy between coding, reading, and writing, people are not only learning to read and write, but also in learning more from reading and writing. Just like children are not only learning to code, but also learning through coding. This kind of learning will have a deep impact on children: express thoughts and feelings, improve system thinking, creativity, and cooperation.
