W2 : Things We learn in college.

Universities often teach you theoretical stuff that is mostly useless in real time

I don't agree much with the idea that universities often teach useless theoretical things. First of all, in order to talk about this, we must definitely define what 'useless' means. "Useless" means that there are no areas or parts that will be used, which in other words does not help us in our daily lives. So, are the subjects we often learn in college really not helpful in our daily lives?

I think it's a little hasty to say yes to this question. We don't only learn 'A' in the class that teaches 'A'. You can learn something else, such as cooperation, from various activities such as team projects and reports, which are carried out to learn "A". In other words, we learn a number of indirect things in class besides the direct things that the school wants to teach.

Of course, the ultimate purpose of the class may not be of any help to our daily lives. However, it should not be overlooked that the indirect things we learn in the class can be of sufficient help in our daily lives.

I would have fully agreed if it were the same opinion that "the key that universities want to teach us through classes is often useless in our life." :)

  1. I agree with this article. In the reading materials uploaded by the professor, Joseph Reagle took a step closer to his dream, gaining knowledge from various fields. In other words, it was true that "every knowledge does not interfere."

I also definitely don't think there's anything 'useless' about learning in university. Because we can broaden our knowledge and experience. However, I think university should help students develop further through various practices as well as theory.

  2. Hi Youngsil, I want to say that I read your post well. I agree with your posting! In fact, I had a lot of doubts about whether it would be useful to learn in school until the second year of college. But last year, when I was working as an intern at a company, I thought it was definitely helpful! I've been worried if I've been spending my time on useless things, but I felt good because I think I worked more effectively as much as I invested my time in my major.

Also, as you know, our major is not revealed to be a department that studies people on the surface, but the process of studying people is essential, right? I think the assignments that I didn't know about make me grow without realizing it! Of course, it may be conceited, but there are times when analysis of people has worked to some extent!

  3. I agree with your point. I don't think that theoretical things to study at university are useless because there are so many complex things that work in our lives.

For example, the theories I learned during Geography class help me plan trips, and the theories related to volume learned during science class helped me cook. Also, after learning about the culture of a country I'll never be able to go in my life, my understanding increased a lot when I saw works related to that country at a museum,

Therefore, I think that the theories I learned at university are not simply useless and that when they are combined with my daily life, they will bring value to our lives.
