After watching Mitch Resnick's Ted talk.

Summary)

Mitch Resnick, the creator of 'Scratch', emphasized the need for coding education with a variety of examples. 'Scratch' is a website where people can easily create their own stories, games, or cartoons, and share that with others. On Mother's Day, children made and shared interactive Mother's Day cards. Children were becoming proficient in new technologies by making their own programs. Being proficient means that children can express themselves and express their thoughts. That is, learning new technologies can help them develop their creative abilities.

Then, are we fluent with digital tools? Mitch Resnick says ‘No’. We are good at using new technologies, but we are not good at creating new technologies or expressing them with new technologies. The important thing is not to read new technology. It is important to create your own computer program or to know how to write code. Resnick said coding is like writing, so everyone should learn to code. We can learn how to express and share our thoughts by learning coding. He emphasized the importance of writing code, saying, "When you create it, you become a creative person."

New/Interesting things I learned)

It was interesting that young people are good at using new technologies, but they could not be called the "digital generation." The real digital generation is the generation who can create their own programs and express themselves with new technologies. Also, it was very impressive to compare coding as an important means of expressing myself, such as writing. This lecture made me learn the importance of coding education and the importance of acquiring new skills.

Discussion Point)

Through code writing, you can create your own programs and express your thoughts. Resnick says coding education should be essential. Wikipedia is a website that shares its knowledge to create encyclopedias. Therefore, more neutral and reliable information will be created only when multiple people participate. So I think Wikipedia education also be necessary. Do you think Wikipedia should be accepted as an important education? If so, I would like to hear other people's opinions as to why it should be accepted.
