What are the pros & cons of using Naver versus Google for research purposes?

Summary)

Naver, the No. 1 most-used search engine in Korea, and Google, the world's No. 1 most-used search engine, have many differences and pros and cons.

First of all, Naver has a search window on the top of the main screen and various posts are exposed in various categories, including news, blogs, and shopping. On the other hand, Google's main screen has only a simple search window.

There was also a difference in search results. Naver usually lists various contents such as advertising, news, blogs, cafes, and shopping when searching for any information keyword. Google, on the other hand, mainly shows research documents on information, such as Wikipedia. In other words, Naver exposes a variety of content that best matches the keywords, and Google first shows content containing basic information. Therefore, when using Naver and Google for research purposes, Naver will be useful only when it wants quick answers to questions, and Google will be useful when it wants to find detailed research information on questions. Naver has the advantage of being divided into contents and looking well organized, and Google has the advantage of showing accurate quality content. Depending on the research situation, it would be better to use both engines properly.

New/Interesting things I learned)

I learned that Google provides a lot of quality information, such as Google books and Google scholar. In addition, Naver also creates public opinion through contents exposed to the main screen, but it was interesting that Google only had a search engine on the main screen. I thought maybe Naver will gradually change like Google.

Discussion Point)

I think it is also an ability to find the right information well. Google has a lot of information, so there will be different information depending on Googling. Do you have any Google search tips? I hope we can share it together.

  1. I have read your opinions on the pros and cons of Naver and Google and agree with them. I also think that both sites can be useful depending on the purpose of the search. I also use Google a lot when researching materials for assignments, but it often takes a long time to find the suitable materials because there is so much information. So, I took this opportunity to find out how to do it more efficiently when searching Google. The tip I would like to share is to search in the format "keyword site:site name(키워드 site: 사이트명)". In this way, we can search for the information we need only on the site we want. As there is so much information, I think it will save a little time if you search this way.

    1. Thank you for your opinion. That's why I've learned a new way to search in the form of "Keyword Sites". If I search only the information I need on the site I want, I think the speed and quality of information retrieval will increase. Let's all googling well!
