W5: The Challenges of Consensus / Park Chan Young

 1. Summary

Consensus may seem simple enough in theory, but It is not. Consensus is to reach the best possible solution. The focus is on the potential benefits of the agreed outcome rather than the speed of the decision. It is also very important that consensus is not unchanged. People should be open to renegotiation at any time. Also, it is not good to be silent. Silence obscures decisions. In addition, various factors make it difficult to reach a consensus. However, these difficulties make the consensus more enjoyable. Wikipedia believes that the process of consensus can produce good results in the long run.

2. Interesting point

Voting is often said to be a symbol of democracy. However, the phrase 'voting is evil' is used in this article. However, It is best to reach a consensus, but it is virtually impossible to reach a consensus when there are more people. For large numbers of people, it is inevitable to use voting in the decision-making process. Voting would be a better way to shorten time than consensus. It is important to identify each pros and cons and use them properly.

3. Discussion

What should we do about an issue that cannot be agreed upon no matter how much we talk?
