W6.1 Encyclopedic Anxiety / Kim Yoon(김윤)

Summary

Over time, Wikipedia's quality increases relatively. People always think about how they will collaborate well within Wikipedia. It may seem like a useful article right now, but over time, it may end up as nothing but scraps. In this chapter, writer looks at the criticism faced by Wikipedia in terms of technical inspiration and implementation of cooperation and so on.
One of the wiki features at the center of criticism, "WikiHow," provides information for users to perform various tasks on the wiki. This does not necessarily force them to work, so there has been a debate over whether the function is prescriptive. In addition, the development of Web 2.0 has further promoted the slogan of "everyone" and "anyone" participating in Wikipedia. This is also what critics criticize.
References can, on the one hand, promote social unrest. As the way content is produced changes and people are more free to modify articles or references and participate in collaboration, criticism and debate over whether this collaboration is desirable or not are also emerging.

Interesting

I thought it would be helpful for Wikipedia if as many people as possible participated in writing, editing and collaboration, but after seeing experts' opinions and examples in this chapter, I newly realized that it is not always good to have a lot of people and functions in Wikipedia.

Discussion

Do you think Wikipedia's functions, such as references, need to be reduced for Wikipedia's prosperity?
