W7: Review of Good Faith Collaboration / WANG XIAOLING, 왕효령

1. Summary

This book details the origin and historical development of Wikipedia. In addition, it also introduces the collaboration culture of Wikipedia from the perspectives of honest cooperation(Maintain a neutral point of view and edit in good faith sincerely), openness(Non-discrimination, transparency and integrity, gender), and challenges of disputes and convincing cases were also presented. To explain why the unique culture of Wikipedia is a success and why it is a miracle today.

2. Interesting / Useful point

Wikipedia positions itself as an encyclopedia that encompasses all areas of human knowledge, rather than a dictionary, online forum, or anything else. Secondly, Wikipedia allows wide public participation, and it is a collaborative project. In addition, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with open content, which allows any third party to copy, modify and redistribute any part or all of the material without restrictions. In this participatory age, interactive learning models like Wikipedia are bound to thrive.

3. What I learned from reading it

Because Wikipedia is based on the Internet, contributors from all over the world may use different dialects when browsing the same language version of Wikipedia, or may be influenced by the idioms of different countries, causing slight differences in their language. These differences may lead to conflicts in the spelling or usage habits of the items, or the influence of the social environment of different places makes different opinions on the content of the items. Therefore, implementing a "neutral point of view" in various language versions of Wikipedia reduces controversy.
