W8: Thoughts after reading "Reliability of Wikipedia". WANG XIAOLING, 왕효령

 1) Summary

Wikipedia is constantly adjusting to ensure the accuracy and authority of its important entries and topics. One way to do this is to submit a specific entry to an expert in the relevant field for review, and then freeze the entry so that no one else can modify it at will, in order to ensure the stability and authority of the researcher when quoting the entry. Moreover, more and more scholars have joined the Wikipedia writing team to ensure the authority of Wikipedia entry articles. According to Wikipedia, as of March 2017, Wikipedia has nearly 40,000 high-quality articles. They are named in-depth articles and excellent articles respectively. Most of the topics discussed in these articles are important topics.

2) Enlightened Point

Wikipedia always contains a lot of entries that are missed or not included in traditional encyclopedias, especially content such as contemporary culture and network technology. This is the reason why many netizens and readers will look up Wikipedia anytime and anywhere, and it is also a place where it surpasses any other large encyclopedias and network databases. Wikipedia has become a frequently used and unavoidable source of information.

3) Discussion Point

Of course, the reliability and credibility of network resources, like modern media, require further confirmation. As academic research, do you think that Wikipedia is an important way for people to talk and create knowledge?
