Week 7 : Good faith collaboration (yerin lee)
Summary
This book covers Wikipedia in general. It emphasizes Wikipedia as a unique well-meaning collaboration rather than just Wikipedia as an encyclopedia. It emphasizes Wikipedia's talk pages and discussions, while specifying collaboration and potential. The article refers to technical features that limit vandalism, actions to mitigate potential and legal issues, and internal bureaucracy. As Wikipedia begins, it deals with various external perspectives and the characteristics and structure of Wikipedia itself.
Interesting and useful points
What's interesting here is that Wikipedia has consistently copied, criticized and satirized over a steady period of time. If criticism and satire exist and the act of imitating Wikipedia itself also occurred, wouldn't Wikipedia's effectiveness be proven naturally? In Korea, celebrities who run malicious comments say, "It will soon become popular to see malicious comments running." Wikipedia, which sparked criticism and satire, soon led to attention, became a reality, as mentioned in the book, and is now referenced in the paper. Also, I think the explanation of Wikipedia's core value and core structure is interesting. The author's statement that there is a link between the core practical commitment (neutrality perspective) and the core procedural commitment is part of the credibility.
Discussion point
I think there were various arguments in the early days of Wikipedia's formation. As mentioned in various book reviews, there have been and still are arguments for and against Wikipedia's censorship, neutrality, and reliability. What do you think you would have thought if you saw the unprecedented early Wikipedia? Can you tell me your thoughts based on the reviews you read and your views on the book?
