W10) Can we think of some example of how Internet has changed our culture? /박채정, PARK CHAEJEONG

Can we think of some example of how Internet has changed our culture?

Today, the Internet has become a part of our lives. The Internet is hovering around us in some way or another. For example, we obtain information using an Internet search box or Wikipedia instead of a thick paper encyclopedia/electronic dictionary. Also, instead of writing letters and sending mail, we send our regards to our friends through e-mail, SNS, messengers, etc. We can even share files such as photos, videos, and documents with others in a single touch without the hassle of storing and sending files through features such as Bluetooth and AirDrop. At first we may have felt unfamiliar with this system. But now, rather, the previous system(like analog) may be stranger to this generation.

Interesting point

This change in the Internet environment has made people more convenient. However, the development of the Internet has reduced the demand and supply for paper encyclopedias and electronic dictionary products, and even published books through e-books or audiobooks instead of paper books. In other words, it is safe to say that the electronics industry and the publishing industry were directly hit by the Internet, whether it was damaged or not. Is there any damage to other industries due to the Internet? Perhaps the way in which advertising is executed has changed a lot. To meet the changing trends and consumer needs every day, and due to changes in the Internet environment, they will try to implement appropriate online and offline advertising.

Discussion point

Other bloggers have commented on the environment and culture of the Internet. Then how can we look at it in terms of Internet advertising? As the mobile environment develops, the use of the Internet becomes more frequent, and the direct and indirect advertisements we encounter in that environment are reckless. In addition to banner advertisements on portal sites, indirect advertisements are being carried out through web-dramas and web-toons. What do you think about the Internet, which is a part of everyday life, and the ads we inevitably face? Is it positive or negative? And why do you think so?

  1. Chae jeong, your point of discussion is very interesting. As you know, advertisements these days are customized based on users' big data. Therefore, we continue to see ads in our interests, and even more isolated in them.
Also, on the Internet, which we use most of the time in our daily lives, these are inevitably faced, as you mentioned, which I think is a very bad phenomenon. The opportunity to filter is lost, and which certainly leads to overspending.

  2. I think your discussion point is important and interesting. Whether it is positive or negative, internet and advertisement became inevitably to our life. So, I cannot affirm with positive or negative. However, I think society’s velocity is slow to follow it. Ads that don’t pretend to be ad or indiscriminate adult advertising are rampant on the internet. Media literacy is inevitably required. But, specific measures are needed to prevent this before media literacy. Who young person can be access internet space when she/he doesn’t know anything.
