How to reuduce the digital divide?/HARI KIM
Q. How to reuduce the digital divide?
A.
The widening economic and social gap between those who have the ability to access new information technology and those who do not is called the digital divide. This digital divide is widening as we enter the digital age. In a digital society where a lot of information and new technologies are poured out every day, the class with poor PC or mobile device usage has many difficulties. The "Kiosk," which is being introduced in various restaurants and cafe cinemas, is a representative example of the difficulties of the information vulnerable. The digital divide may lead to social inequality among classes.
Then what should we do to narrow the digital divide? First of all, I believe that practical on-site education and support for smart services is necessary for the elderly and other digital underprivileged. Smart services can be too big for them, so education should be provided so that anyone can easily follow them.
Next is to make technology easier to use. When using a product, it should be designed to be easy for anyone regardless of age, cultural background, or disability. For example, for people with poor eyesight, it should be made into a technology that anyone can use, such as sending text messages and retrieving information from smartphones. Kiosk should be designed for easy use by anyone as well as providing education.
