 1. What is 'Do You Know'?

DYK's function is to recommend new content to users. Wikipedia offers a variety of information by recommending and sharing new information that can be missed because it is not on the main page. It also provides insights to users.  Hereby, they increase the power to recreate other information and disseminates improved information.

 

2. Thinking about DYK

I think this feature is the result of thinking about how to give users more informative information. If you use this function well, you can evenly acquire useful information that might have been necessary for you. It shows content that you might be interested in while ensuring a certain level of quality. That's why you don't have to be stressed out for be perfect in Wikipedia. Also, I will believe in this feature and try to participate with a light heart, when I edit Wikipedia in the future.

W7: GFC book notes By 'William S. Kowinski' , 'Cory Doctorow','Piotr Konieczny' and 'Paul Youngquist'/ 진신

Summary- William S. Kowinski: The true exception is the innovative success of a collaborative effort that has prime online reference work called Wikipedia. This book is not meant to be biography or reportage, but contemporary ethnography or study of a culture. What this book does well is describe how Wikipedia works and what issues have arisen.  It's short on drama and personality，and so it's probably destined to be a source document. Since that seems unlikely, this may remain the best opportunity for learning about this remarkable project. ● Why Wikipedia? ●  Problems : Wikipedia and alienation   1) Why Wikipedia has become more acceptable Through this week's lecture, I learned why Wikipedia has become acceptable and why I should get used to it. One of  Wikipedia's characteristics is that it does not guarantee any financial benefits. Many people are participating in these tasks simply for fun or just volunteering. Wikipedia suggests a new anthropological perspective in that it is an encyclopedia that participates not for financial gain but for pride. Secondly,  Wikipedia is a platform with excellent participation effectiveness. It is very attractive that participation in the work is immediately seen by many people.
