W15. What did I learn while editing Wikipedia?
Q1. What did you learn from editing Wikipedia?
At first, I was worried a lot. The fact that it touches the contents of an encyclopedia that anyone in the world can see has come as a great burden to me. I don't know what other countries will be like, but there is a saying in Korea that 'starts are half done.'
For the first time, I revised an article that many people could see. After doing it, I thought that other people could learn something through the article I revised. And even if I edited it wrong, it could be corrected by someone. In the meantime, I thought that the contents of the article could be taken a step closer to quality information. With these thoughts, after I finished editing the article, I was more excited than worried.
I think the biggest thing I learned while editing Wikipedia was 'confidence'. Wikipedia is not a concept like a one-time assignment. Users can receive various feedback and generate good quality articles in the process. It took me a long time to edit Wikipedia for the first time because of the fear I felt at first. However, I realized that editing even late was much better than not editing.
Q2. How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments?
Most of the assignments in the existing university classes had to follow the direction of the class steadily, so most of them were clearly set. I've never done such an autonomous assignment before. When it comes to doing assignments, I had the attitude to do exactly as required by class. However, through your 'Collective Intelligence in Practice' class, my attitude toward the assignment has changed. The class helped me a lot in growing my active side. And I was able to get a lot of information on various topics in the process of jumping directly into various articles and doing the assignment.
