W15: What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? / MINJI JEONG

-What did I learn while editing Wikipedia?

I was able to think about collective intelligence, the main culture of Wikipedia. I was impressed by the culture of creating more knowledge based on sharing knowledge and communicating with each other. It was an experience where we could feel the common value in a modern society where individualism prevailed. Also, I was able to learn the interest of sharing information while editing Wikipedia.

Of course, the process of translating Wikipedia's documents and writing new articles was not easy. I think the reason was awkwardness. The whole process of editing documents and writing articles that I've never done before felt awkward and difficult. In addition, I was worried about going through the process of checking my knowledge to post. As it was information that I would share with others, I wanted to be objective. Therefore, various papers, Statistics Korea materials, and newspaper articles were searched to prove the reliability of the information. Through that process, I was able to learn about the process of verifying the objectivity of information.

Is it more fun?

From the previous assignment to the submission format, all the platforms used were different. The existing assignment was in the form of collecting information and submitting it or presenting it. However, this assignment became a direct user of Wikipedia and performed correction and recording of the information directly. I had a lot of difficulties because it was my first time, but I was able to perform the assignment well with interest as I got used to it.
