What did I learn while editing Wikipedia?

I think students majoring in in information sociology should be close friends with Wikipedia. After working hard on writing and editing articles, I feel proud to have contributed to the world. Then I lose confidence when I get a message that the source is wrong. If I overcome difficulties and correct them properly, I feel more proud.

Throughout this class, editing Wikipedia gave me the opportunity to explore a topic widely and deeply. In 2019, I wrote articles such as "Seocho-dong public toilet murder case" and "Hello Jadoo", and this year, I wrote articles such as "Welcome to Video case", "Slime", and "Unnatural". After contributing greatly to a total of five articles, I got to know those five topics better than anyone else. When looking at other articles on Wikipedia for reference to style and writing rules, I could get new information and practice logical writing. Wikipedia editing allows me to learn a lot of things without feeling it.

How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun?

The main content of the class was not memorizing theory, but homework through practice, so I felt burdened by the large amount of homework every week even though I had Wikipedia editing experience. As I slowly solved the assignments one by one, I thought this assignment was truly suitable for university classes. Only to get good grades, college classes and assignments are increasingly becoming cramming like high school. In fact, memorizing theories and solving workbooks alone can hardly be used in society after graduation. Perhaps someone can enjoy Wikipedia editing through this class and become a great Wikipedia user like a professor.

As before, I missed raising my hand in class to present my thoughts, to visit the lab and get Wikipedia feedback. However, thanks to the professor's quick feedback, the non-face-to-face class went very smoothly. Thank you.
