W2. After watching Mitch Rensnicks' video
Summary
I can summarize his philosophy like:
1. Experience in expressing oneself with technology is more important than using technology simply.
2. Learning a particular concept through code is a good way to learn in the process of creating the desired project.
EX) To inform a child who wants to make a scoring function of a variable function.
3. SW education is worth learning for all students because it can develop a variety of universal thinking skills that do not just stay in "computing."
- Many key principles of design
- How to experiment with new ideas
- How to bring complex ideas and cut them into simpler parts
- How to work with others on a project
- How to find or fix a problem when things are not going well
- How to persevere and persist in the face of frustration when things don't go well
Interesting Point
Actually, I’m not good at doing something with technology or computer, so I learned a lot from his lecture. I thought studying or socializing with friends only can bring about internal growth. However, according to his lecture, we can also learn how to persevere and persist in the face of frustration through SW education. That was interesting to me.
Discussion
In the distant future, if you had to teach a young child, would you let him learn coding first, or read a book first?
