Why are you taking this class? What practical skills do you expect to gain from attending it?/Han seung gu

I first got to know Wikipedia in class last semester globalization sociology. The Wikipedia system, which shares multiple knowledge and complements individuals, was impressive. I wanted to study and learn more about Wikipedia. Wikipedia is also a representative collective intelligence. I want to analyze the characteristics of Wikipedia to improve my understanding of collective intelligence. Through this class, I will learn more about collective intelligence and express it in English. And I will share various Wikipedia articles, share opinions with various people, and establish my views within them.

W9 Do you think Wikipedia is reliable? why or why not? / Han seung gu

I think Wikipedia is highly reliable. There are various reasons to increase reliability, and two of them are Cross Verification and Debate. Cross-validation Wikipedia, like a marathon, when someone edits a document, another person corrects what's wrong or makes up for what's lacking. Documents in Wikipedia have a process that cannot be edited or owned exclusively by one person. Wikipedia seeks to create an encyclopedia that all users can trust through cross-validation. Debate Systems such as user discussion in Wikipedia further increase the credibility of Wikipedia by increasing the distrust of information about Wikipedia. This means that distrust leads to the strengthening of cross-validation, which increases credibility. During document editing, there may be conflicts of opinion between editors. The editors who had a disagreement will be moved to the 'discussion' section. Discuss until an agreement is reached. If there is still no conclusion, it will be placed in th...

W4 What are the pros and cons of using Naver versus Google for research purposes? / Han seung gu

Naver versus Google for research purposes   Naver and Google would be the most representative portal sites in Korea. I also use Naver and Google together, because each of the advantages and disadvantages of Naver and Google is different. Naver is more of an information-producing machine than a search engine. When I look at Naver, I feel confident that I can produce all the information in the world. There were so many functions besides information retrieval that it was difficult to focus on information retrieval. Rather than producing a lot of information on their own, they ask bloggers, cafes, and businesses to get information. As a result, the quality of information is poor, but it can be obtained in countless fields. But crucially, it only deals with information produced by Naver. Google is faithfully fulfilling its search engine mission. I feel like I paid a lot of attention to the quality of the search engine. There are fewer commercial posts, and articles for information deliv...

W8 What do you find difficult? What do you find enjoyable? / Han seung gu

What do you find difficult? The most worrisome thing was that when I wrote Wikipedia, I wondered if I would lower the trust of information. I also know that if the information is not true, someone will fix it,  but I couldn't shake off my worries. So I searched and compared each and every piece of information to make it as realistic as possible. After all, it was most difficult to increase the reliability of information. What do you find enjoyable? I think it was the most enjoyable when the information was not revised days after posting it. Because this means that the information I wrote was not wrong. Also, I was happy to learn and acquire information while searching for information. It was amazing that related things came to my mind when I was living my daily life.

W15: What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? /Han seung gu

What did I learn while editing Wikipedia? While I was editing Wikipedia, I found it more useful than I thought. At the same time, I wondered if Korea had used so many good things. I thought that the culture of cooperation, sharing, and discussion, which are values emphasized by Wikipedia, is a necessary posture for our society beyond just online.  I think cooperation, sharing, and discussion are all lacking in Korean society. I hope that if many people learn basic knowledge and attitudes about collective intelligence through Wikipedia, it will also grow. It strikes me that this is by no means difficult. People all tend to want to share their knowledge. On SNS, people always share, share, and share feedback with each other. With a little attention, I think we can get enough people into Wikipedia's charm. How is this assignment different from more traditional student assignments? Is it more fun? In fact, I found this very interesting. The format of other tasks is predictable a...

W6 : How important are contributions of a single individual in the sea of "collective intelligence"? / Han seung gu

How important are contributions of a single individual in the sea of "collective intelligence"? Collective intelligence is the result of a large number of individuals cooperating or competing with each other. In short, it refers to collective capacity. The integrated intelligence of groups with diversity and independence is closer to the correct conclusion than to the ability of a few superior individuals or experts. In other words, a person's contribution to collective intelligence means that they are so close to the answer. The majority are not always right. Collective intelligence is not always right either. Apart from that, however, the fact that a large number of people have gathered has an important meaning, regardless of right or wrong. There are many things in the world that are clearly not distinguished between good and evil. In a democratic society, decisions are made on the basis of majority rule in such cases. In other words, collective intelligence is a z...

W12 : What is “quality” for our societies? / Han seung gu

I   want to talk about the quality that needs to be improved in our society.  The quality that our society needs  is "equality," "discussion culture" and "respects human right." Equality As democracy develops, everyone is said to be equal, but it is not. Many people are suffering inequality in a variety of ways. Information inequality, income inequality, and cultural inequality. As the capitalist society continues, polarization is getting worse and the value of equality is getting undermined. To improve the quality of society, narrowing this gap will be the most important. discussion culture Without a debate, we cannot make the right decision. Also, it does not come up with a decision that the majority can agree on. Only when there is a common sense and reasonable process can society develop. Debate is essential for this. We compromise through discussion, and we understand other groups. A society with the right debate culture is in a healthy state. Human ...

W3 Why Wikipedia less popular in South Korea.../ Han seung gu

  Q. Why Wikipedia less popular in South Korea than in most other developed countries? I think, Naver has a big influence in South Korea Naver is a representative information search site in Korea. Since I was young, I have used Naver only, and I have been writing various communities, cafes, and blogs on Naver, so I will not look for other sites other than Naver. Naver's scalability is currently No. 1 in South Korea. Businesses such as shopping, webtoons, radio, and messenger are expanding infinitely. Of course, Naver also has weaknesses. That is the reliability of the information. Naver tends to have low reliability of information because it is so large. Blog posts are also difficult to believe because they are being advertised, and contents of "Naver Knowledge-In" cannot be verified for their reliability. Wikipedia has a strong competitive edge in that respect. This is because many people continue to verify reliability by writing and correcting information. Currently, ma...

W10. Is internet addiction real? Are we addicted to the internet? / Han seung gu

We are all addicted to the Internet. But that is not the problem. In recent decades the Internet has become a part of our lives with that need. The Internet affects us everywhere in our daily lives. We all use the Internet when we work, eat, or relax. It is not just a computer. All devices such as cell phones and TVs are sharing the Internet. In this situation, is it possible to live without using the Internet? The Internet provides us with tremendous convenience and efficiency. Not using the Internet is like giving up this advantage. The Internet has become essential and indispensable in our lives. Eating every day in our lives doesn't mean we're addicted to eating. Just like this, the Internet has become a part of our lives. Of course there are several concerns about internet addiction. There are many links between violent Internet games and school violence. However, this is not necessarily due to Internet addiction. Among them, I am addicted to internet games. Internet add...

W10 Can we think of some examples of how internet has changed our culture? / Han seung gu

Marshall McLuhan called the advent of new media and technology an extension of human sensory organs. So is the Internet. The advent of new media based on Internet technology is changing much of life. First of all, it can be said that it replaces what was previously handled by offline media or is in charge of it more efficiently. E-mail replaced paper letters, and besides paper newspapers, I got used to getting the latest news on the Internet. Just as television has not disappeared, the advent of new media does not necessarily mean the regression of existing media, but reading and crumpling letters written all night has become a rather unfamiliar scene. It is also noteworthy that the accumulation and sharing process of consciousness is taking place in a completely new form. Although it has been acquired mainly through books, newspapers, and broadcasting, the development of Internet media has created an environment where anyone can easily access the collected information and anyone...

W11 Is quality subjective or objective? / Han seung gu

think the quality is both subjective and objective. There is no entirely fair and objective quality in the world. Of course, subjectivity is bound to be added. Even if a metric is used for objectivity, it is a person who sets the target figure for the metric and interprets the actual performance result figure. In the end, it is a matter for the appraiser to judge. The evaluation is naturally conducted by the appraiser. However, it should not be subjective. Because subjectivity means individuality. The criteria that only individuals agree with are difficult to win the majority's favor. In the end, I think it is objectivity that many subjectives have been agreed upon. That's why it's hard to say that quality is either because it's evaluated as objectivity with subjectivity.

W2 Why Wikipedia / Han seung gu

 1. Summarize - why do you think Wikipedia is becoming more accepted? There is a variety of information on the Internet now. In the past, people passively obtained information from newspapers, TV news, and radio. But now, regardless of time or place, they find information themselves. In this stream, Wikipedia has become an important channel for people to search for information. The amount of information varies because everyone in the world writes it by themselves. Also, the revision is highly reliable because it is actively carried out. This led to many people using Wikipedia. Participation is the biggest reason for Wikipedia's power. Many people continue to use it because people directly participate and get responses there. Find information, write it, fix it, feedback with people and find it again. It is a virtuous circle structure.   2. Interesting point In fact, the use of Wikipedia is not so common in Korea. Instead of Wikipedia, it uses portal sites such as 'Naver' and...

Blog assignment1 After Reading the Link /Han seung gu

Attempts to write down the idea of bringing knowledge from all over the world into one place have historically continued. However, it faced many difficulties and failed to achieve the goal. The development of printing allowed encyclopedias to be created, but accessibility was limited and there was a lot of wrong information. Then the 20c Internet developed, and the long-cherished desire of mankind came true through Wikipedia.Within a month of its launch, Wikipedia created 200 items. A year later, the total number of items increased to 18,000. It is a moment of collective intelligence. Wikipedia's economic value is estimated at $3 billion. After reading Link's article, I learned many advantages of Wikipedia. I want to share it with you. Value of Engagement, Openness, and Sharing Wikipedia's strengths lie in its participation, information sharing, and openness. Information is power as it enters the information age. In that context, Wikipedia is creating a new knowledge powe...

W5 Do you think Wikipedia is right to reject censorship? / Han seung gu

Do you think Wikipedia is right to reject censorship?  I think censorship is essential in an online information retrieval engine. Wikipedia's biggest strength is of course the reliability of information. It means high quality of information, which I think is achieved through constant censorship. If there is no censorship online, Wikipedia will be slashed by people all over the world. Not everyone necessarily distributes the right information. Some people maliciously spread fake news for incitement. It is more likely to be the case online, where anonymity is guaranteed. To prevent this, censorship within the Wikipedia search engine is essential. Of course, that does not mean infringing on freedom of expression. Wikipedia is currently censoring, but does not produce fake news through unconditional editing of information. This is because a large number of people directly manage information, which will not cause censorship to violate freedom of expression.
